Dear all,
I am emailing you this afternoon regarding a different piece of work I am involved in which is the Sanger Prize. An annual competition which is aimed at undergraduate students from low and middle income countries. The winner of the prize
receives a fully supported three month, all expenses paid trip to Sanger to work within a programme of their choice. The prize was established by John Sulston (the founding Sanger Director) and funded using the money from his Nobel Prize. It has been running
for over 15 years now and has gained in popularity during this time, last year we received over 500 applications for the first stage.
The Sanger Prize offers a brilliant opportunity for aspiring young researchers to come to the Institute, and many who have won in the past have gone on to complete PhD’s, some in Cambridge and one very recent winner is currently a PhD student
at Sanger.
For an insight into how amazing an opportunity the Sanger Prize is for the winners, please check out this recent blog post written about our most recent winner, Dami who spent the summer working in Ewan Harrisons team.

The Trustees are always keen for the Prize to reach as many eligible people as possible and with your international contacts I would be very grateful if you can forward the information in this email onto any you know who has contacts in
low and middle income countries, to encourage as many applications as possible.
Further details and a link to the application form can be found here:

If you have any queries at all regarding the prize please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards
Nicky
