Hi All,

We hope all is well for you and yours this 2022. We are looking forward to another exciting year for our network and the discoveries that will continue to come from your projects and collaborations. Related to this Human Cell Atlas Oral & Craniofacial Bionetwork (OCBN), we have a few updates re: publications, funding announcements, and our annual OCBN virtual conference.

  1. All the current published data related to the healthy Human Oral and Craniofacial Cell Atlas has been summarized in the attached excel sheet. We are continuing to update this as more publications come out. Cheers to @Ana Caetano for assembling this as part of a roadmap/blueprint publication currently under review; further, thanks to the many of you that thoughtfully contributed to the authoring of that work (also attached). If you are aware of any other datasets that could be included here, please let us know.
  2. Our burgeoning network could benefit from collaborative funding opportunities across the lifespan, from soft to hard tissue niches, in heath and disease. To that end, we wanted to highlight the recent RFA from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative related to rare, pediatric, inflammatory diseases: https://chanzuckerberg.com/rfa/patient-partnered-collaborations-ppc-for-single-cell-analysis-of-rare-inflammatory-pediatric-disease/ [chanzuckerberg.com] | As this group already appreciates, there are hundreds of rare diseases with oral manifestations. If you are interested, we encourage you to apply. If you would like to discuss more, feel free to email us.
  3. The next HCA General Meeting will take place in Vienna, Austria from June 27-29th. The HCA organizers are currently exploring ways to maximize capacity, as well as add a virtual component to the meeting. Additional events such as the HCA Africa Symposium (all virtual) are included here: https://www.humancellatlas.org/events/#{%22-%22:{%22group%22:%22%22,%22year%22:%22%22,%22text%22:%22%22}}
  4. We are planning our OCBN virtual conference with a tentative date of Wednesday, September 14th If you attended last year, it will look similar to that format. We are especially interested in global representation at this meeting, and we encourage presentations by early career researchers (graduate students, postdocs, research scientists, PIs). If you are interested in presenting at this meeting, please email us ASAP as we plan out the structure of the day.
  5. Free opportunity for a Single Cell Genomics workshop linked below: Single Cell Genomics Day: A (Virtual) Practical Workshop: (https://satijalab.org/scgd22/ [satijalab.org]) | The Satija Lab is excited to host the sixth annual Single Cell Genomics Day on Friday, March 4, 2022. This workshop will begin with an overview of exciting developments in the field over the past year, followed by in-depth presentations on exciting methods and techniques. The goal is to empower you to utilize single cell genomics in your work. The workshop is free and open to beginners and experts alike.

If there are topics or ideas that you have to improve collaboration, team building for the OCBN, please do not hesitate to reach out at any time.

Best,
