Five years after the first HCA White Paper, our international consortium has grown to include 18 Biological Networks and more than 2,600 HCA members from 86 countries. Having sequenced and characterized more than 100 million cells so far, progress from our open global community is accelerating towards the creation of the Human Cell Atlas 1.0 and is expanding the focus on cell annotation and integration. We all contribute to the HCA community in different ways to help create the Atlas, including contributing data to the HCA, developing methods or technology, attending HCA meetings, and submitting papers for inclusion on the HCA Publications webpage. Everyone’s input is important and we thank you for all your contributions. The GM will focus on integration and continuing progress towards building the first draft of the Human Cell Atlas, including connecting and leveraging diverse communities, reference maps, data assembly and computational efforts. The meeting will also explore machine learning approaches in Atlas construction. More details to follow at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__humancellatlas.us19.li… ** New Members of the HCA Organising Committee ------------------------------------------------------------ The HCA Organising Committee (OC), the multinational governing body of the HCA, is delighted to announce (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__humancellatlas.us19.li… ) that Christine Wells, Christoph Bock, Fabian Theis, Fabiana Arzuaga, Patricia Severino and Shyam Prabhakar have joined the committee. Co-chaired by Sarah Teichmann and Aviv Regev, the HCA Organising Committee (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__humancellatlas.us19.li… ) now has 36 members from around the world. Meeting regularly to set policies for HCA, the OC coordinates the activities of the HCA Biological Networks and Working Groups, and determines the overall scientific direction of the HCA. ** HCA Publications: Paper Approval Procedure ------------------------------------------------------------ Do you have an upcoming paper or preprint that you would like included as an HCA publication (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__humancellatlas.us19.li… ) ? To date, 120 papers have been approved by the HCA Publications Committee. ** HCA Asia 2022 Meeting ------------------------------------------------------------ The Human Cell Atlas Asia 2022 Meeting was held on 3-4 November 2022, in Bangkok, Thailand and online. This meeting featured many collaborations in the Asia-Pacific region as well as pitches for new flagship projects, and included 194 in-person and 133 virtual participants, from 18 countries. This workshop will bring together 40 computational biologists and researchers from 12 countries in Africa. Due to great demand, we are planning a similar program in June 2023 at Redeemers University in Nigeria. CAP is currently being populated for researchers to compare cell annotations across studies to help achieve consensus cell annotations for the Human Cell Atlas.
