Subject: [Stemambassadors] Talk at Colchester County High School
Dear STEM Ambassadors,
A year 11 student from Colchester County High School for Girls has been in touch with us asking if someone from the Wellcome Genome Campus could visit their school and give a talk about their work and career during British Science Week (2-13 March).
Their Science Department and Science Leaders will host a lunch for anyone who visits the school. They are also open to talking over Skype if a visit isn’t possible.
Please let us know if you are interested in giving this talk and we can connect you with the school.
Best wishes,
Public Engagement team
Dear STEM Ambassadors,
Birgit Meldal is looking for a few volunteers to help with DNA bracelets and DNA extractions with 2x Year 4 classes at Milton Primary School in the morning of Friday, 28th February. Please let her know if you would like to join the fun! Birgit is organising all the logistics, you would just be required to turn up and help the children with the two activities.
If you would like to join Birgit, please email her directly (bmeldal(a)ebi.ac.uk<mailto:bmeldal@ebi.ac.uk>).
Best wishes,
Public Engagement
Dear All,
We’re running an hour long training workshop on Tuesday 25th Feb (tomorrow) at 11:30am in the OpenLab (in the Ogilvie building), around a set of public engagement coding activity kits that have been developed.
Anyone interested is welcome to come along to hear more about the kits and learn how to run them as activities.
Spaces are limited so please email engage(a)wgc.org.uk<mailto:engage@wgc.org.uk> to let us know if you are planning on coming along.
There are also upcoming opportunities to get experience running these with the public, such as an event being held at Downham Market Library on the 12th March, Open Saturday as part of Cambridge Science Festival on 21st March and the YouMe&Us event in August. So if you are interested in either putting the kits into practice at these events, or coming along to learn about them but are unable to make it to the training tomorrow, then please do get in touch about these events too.
Hope to see some of you there!
Thanks and best wishes,
The Public Engagement Team

Dear STEM Ambassadors,
We're writing to tell you about a fantastic public engagement event we have coming up on Thursday 12th March!
The campus is going to be taking over Downham Market Library and putting on stalls to highlight all the amazing genomics work we do every day!
We are looking for people to come and help facilitate conversations and activities with visitors (primary school aged children through to adults using the library services) between 11am and 5pm.
No previous experience is needed as we will make sure you are trained on any activities and supported throughout the day.
This event will help the campus reach out to audiences who tend to have less opportunities to engage with the campus or genomics and is sure to be a great day!
If you are interested in getting involved with this then please do let us know by emailing engage(a)wgc.org.uk<mailto:engage@wgc.org.uk>.
We can also cover all transport costs for getting to and from this event so please don't let that stop you!
Thanks and Best Wishes,

Hi All
At the last Stem Ambassadors lunch someone mentioned a smell based demonstration that could be done where a jar was set up with contents and some people could smell the contents, and some people would find it odourless, depending on the variant they have. Does someone have some more information on this please? I’m toying with trying to incorporate it into the show I do.
Regards
Rishi
