Hi all,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the lighting test on Tuesday showed that unfortunately the emergency lighting is still not working in these rooms, and Sotham’s have had to order a new part which will be fitted in the new year.
If anyone needs to access the rooms over the Christmas break, please feel free to take a torch into the rooms for peace of mind and feel free to use the “break glass” emergency exit button if there’s any issues with the door.
Furthermore, the lighting timing issues are being discussed and Jon is looking into getting some sensor-activated lighting installed in the corridors in the new year.
Any problems/ concerns please let me know, otherwise wishing you all a very merry Christmas! See you in 2024 🧑🏻🎄
Best wishes,
Vicky

Hi all,
Apparently today is the one day no one is on site to do this…
The last day Sotham’s are on site is the 20th December – I’ve added extra dates on the poll-
https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/bWwv56Qb
I appreciate it’s a big chunk of time, but it would be great if we could get this done before Christmas so we know it’s working. It would be good to avoid a situation where someone is stuck in the dark again, especially when nobody else is around, i.e. if someone needs to access the labs over the Christmas period.
April has indicated the afternoons of the 11th and 13th are possible- would either of those work for other users please?
Best wishes,
Vicky

Hi Vicky,
Wednesday afternoon (6th) is the Teichlab Christmas lunch, so I think that afternoon would be ideal for the light testing in the tissue processing room (as I believe only TeichLab is using it).
Best,
Maddy

Thanks all who replied – I’ve postponed for now.
Sotham’s have carried out the repair this morning, so now need to check it works. I spoke to them earlier and asked what they would need – the lights will need to be off for 3 hours, however the emergency lighting will be on and they will only need to access the lab to turn them off at the start of the 3 hours and to check at the end of it. The room can be used in this time, but it will only have the red emergency lighting so will be quite dark. We need to let Sotham's know our availability for a whole morning or afternoon where the lights can be off- please can you fill in the doodle poll and let me know when would be best?
I could only add dates up until the 14th for now but will extend if there’s no times in there that works. Sotham’s last day is the 20th, so we should try and get this sorted before the end of the year.

Hi Vicky,
Thanks for letting me know.
I will also need to work in the RSF throughout the afternoon tomorrow ☹ Would greatly appreciate if we could postpone.
Thanks,
Jack

Hi all,
Sothams are fixing the emergency lighting in the R1-125 and R1-126 – they are fixing the circuit this morning (in 15 minutes) and the lights will need to be off for 30 minutes, if anyone urgently needs to work in there now, please let me know.
They also want to test the lighting tomorrow afternoon, which I’ve just found out will require the main lights to be off between 1pm and 4pm tomorrow. The emergency lighting will remain on, but obviously that’s a very low light to work in.
This can be postponed if required, so if anyone needs to access either the organoid room or tissue processing room tomorrow afternoon, please let me know and I will request another date.
Best wishes,
Vicky

Hi all,
There is a malfunction with the magnetic locking to the inner set of doors at the RSF entrance preventing them responding to the button/cardax. This set of doors has now been disabled and can just be opened, Engineers are hoping to repair it by the end of the day.
In the event of encountering issues opening any doors while in the building the green break glass buttons will disable power to the door allowing you to exit. Please do not hesitate to use them if needed.
