Hi all,
Angela from H&S has carried out some testing on the noise levels emitted by the MSCs in both rooms. She presented the data from these recordings last week at the RSF LC meeting, but has requested that she has an hour in each room to do more in-depth recordings before she gives us her final recommendations.
Please indicate on the doodle poll below if any of these times work (based on Angela’s current diary availability) and then I’ll run it past her to see if she’s free.
https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/boAgyNKe
On top of this, we also need to allow Sotham’s another hour where the lights will be off in both rooms so they can repair the emergency lighting, I’ll look at the doodle link first and then add more dates if there’s not enough options there.
Best wishes,
Vicky

Hi all,
As you may know the sink in R1-125 sprung a leak. This has turned out to be the regulator for the RO water so it has now been isolated.
You can continue to use the sink, but there will be no RO water until the regulator can be replaced.
Please be careful around the sink area, absorbent mats have been placed and the area mopped but it is still residually damp.

Hi all,
Please be aware that wire testing will continue to take place this week, which will result in sections of power being turned off for short intervals.
(The time taken is for the entire room , it is not the duration of the power outage they will test each socket in turn).

Hi all,
Just a heads up that Pallab Ghosh from the BBC will be visiting the RSF labs R1-125 (and probably R1-126) next Tuesday afternoon between 12-2pm, along with 2 members of Sanger’s PR team.
They will not be filming at this time, but please can everyone make sure that the labs are in good order ready for Tuesday, and if any sensitive work is planned for that day, let me know and ideally plan the work outside of 12-2pm?
I’ll check the labs over on Monday, any issues or concerns, please let me know asap.
Best wishes,
Vicky

Hi Conor,
This would be an issue for our team working in the RSF organoid room. We are going to be in the middle of a very important organoid differentiation as part of paper revision experiments. These experiments will be reliant on the incubators and rotator working throughout. Sorry to be a nuisance in the planning of this works but maybe there can be some rearrangement until we have passed this critical differentiation period.
Best wishes,
April

Hi Conor,
The only thing would be if there was a perfusion going on we would not be able to turn the power off, even for 15 mins.
We can’t really predict when this might happen as it depends on the availability of kidneys. I see there is a range of dates so hopefully there can be some flexibility to accommodate a perfusion experiment. Also we wouldn’t want to decline kidney samples just if this testing work had been planned. Perhaps we could add an exception for the perfusion room.
Thanks for your help with this,
Best wishes,
Elena

Hi all,
There is upcoming wire testing in the RSF which must be carried out as a legal requirement, there is some wiggle room on the dates. Each electrical circuit in the room will be turned off for up to 15 minutes.
Can everyone check the dates below and let me know:
1. If there is any critical work taking place on that day that cannot be interrupted.
2. If there’s any equipment in use that wouldn’t be able to be turned off. (Incubators should be fine as they won’t be opening them while the power is off).

Hi all,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the lighting test on Tuesday showed that unfortunately the emergency lighting is still not working in these rooms, and Sotham’s have had to order a new part which will be fitted in the new year.
If anyone needs to access the rooms over the Christmas break, please feel free to take a torch into the rooms for peace of mind and feel free to use the “break glass” emergency exit button if there’s any issues with the door.
Furthermore, the lighting timing issues are being discussed and Jon is looking into getting some sensor-activated lighting installed in the corridors in the new year.
Any problems/ concerns please let me know, otherwise wishing you all a very merry Christmas! See you in 2024 🧑🏻🎄
Best wishes,
Vicky

Hi all,
Apparently today is the one day no one is on site to do this…
The last day Sotham’s are on site is the 20th December – I’ve added extra dates on the poll-
https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/bWwv56Qb
I appreciate it’s a big chunk of time, but it would be great if we could get this done before Christmas so we know it’s working. It would be good to avoid a situation where someone is stuck in the dark again, especially when nobody else is around, i.e. if someone needs to access the labs over the Christmas period.
April has indicated the afternoons of the 11th and 13th are possible- would either of those work for other users please?
Best wishes,
Vicky

Hi Vicky,
Wednesday afternoon (6th) is the Teichlab Christmas lunch, so I think that afternoon would be ideal for the light testing in the tissue processing room (as I believe only TeichLab is using it).
Best,
Maddy

Thanks all who replied – I’ve postponed for now.
Sotham’s have carried out the repair this morning, so now need to check it works. I spoke to them earlier and asked what they would need – the lights will need to be off for 3 hours, however the emergency lighting will be on and they will only need to access the lab to turn them off at the start of the 3 hours and to check at the end of it. The room can be used in this time, but it will only have the red emergency lighting so will be quite dark. We need to let Sotham's know our availability for a whole morning or afternoon where the lights can be off- please can you fill in the doodle poll and let me know when would be best?
I could only add dates up until the 14th for now but will extend if there’s no times in there that works. Sotham’s last day is the 20th, so we should try and get this sorted before the end of the year.

Hi all,
Sothams are fixing the emergency lighting in the R1-125 and R1-126 – they are fixing the circuit this morning (in 15 minutes) and the lights will need to be off for 30 minutes, if anyone urgently needs to work in there now, please let me know.
They also want to test the lighting tomorrow afternoon, which I’ve just found out will require the main lights to be off between 1pm and 4pm tomorrow. The emergency lighting will remain on, but obviously that’s a very low light to work in.
This can be postponed if required, so if anyone needs to access either the organoid room or tissue processing room tomorrow afternoon, please let me know and I will request another date.
Best wishes,
Vicky
